    Condensing units and racks
    Original Bitzer and Copeland compressors, matched to medium (+10°C), low (-15 to -30°C), or blast (-25 to -40°C) duty. The site decides air-cooled, water-cooled, or evaporative condensing.

    Compressors that stage together
    A multi-compressor rack follows a changing load instead of slamming one oversized machine on and off. If one compressor drops, the others keep capacity available. Danfoss oil-balance and pressure controls work with Schneider electrical protection.

    Evaporators matched to duty
    Roof-mounted, double-throw, and blast evaporators move air differently. We pick fin spacing for the temperature, wider in freezers to slow frost blockage, with corrosion-resistant casings and stainless heaters for even defrost.

    Lower load by design
    Staged compressors, a right-sized condenser, and proper defrost control can take ~20% off the running load versus a slapped-in oversized unit. New installations use low-GWP refrigerant blends. The saving depends on the room and the install.

How do you size a refrigeration condensing unit?

We add four loads: heat through the panel envelope, outside air entering through the doors, incoming product that needs to cool or freeze, and heat from lights, fans, equipment, and people. Then we apply a run-time factor so the compressor doesn't need 24 hours to hold temperature on the design day. That gives the required capacity. The evaporator, valves, and controls are matched to the same duty instead of picked as separate catalog items.

Do I need one compressor or a multi-compressor rack?

One compressor fits a single room with a steady load and a shutdown the operation can tolerate. A rack makes sense for several rooms, a load that swings sharply, or storage that can't go warm. Compressors stage as demand changes, so you're not running a 40 HP unit against a half-empty room. If one compressor fails, the others keep part of the capacity. The rack costs more up front, but you get lower-load operation and real redundancy.

Should I use an air-cooled or water-cooled condenser?

Water-cooled is more efficient when the site has adequate, decent-quality water, room for the tower, and staff to manage water treatment. Most Northeast food plants choose air-cooled because it's simpler and avoids that water system. It works well when the condenser is sized for a hot August afternoon instead of the annual average. Evaporative condensing sits between the two for larger racks. Site utilities and maintenance capacity matter as much as the first-cost comparison.

What refrigerant should a new cold-storage system use?

New systems use low-GWP blends such as R448A / R449A for medium- and low-temperature duty. Existing R404A, R507A, and R134a systems can still be serviced. Replacement isn't automatic; we compare equipment condition, leak history, parts availability, and remaining service life before recommending a retrofit or a new plant. Either way, the compressor, valves, oil management, and controls have to be selected for the refrigerant, not changed afterward.
